One of the best months if you’re a fan of indie games

While everyone is complaining that April has been very sparse when it comes to big game releases, here I am being addicted by Battle Brothers, a game launched back in 2017, and enjoying the new take on King Arthur’s legend by the folks at Neocore. I can’t recommend both games enough to those who love turn-based strategy game, and while we’re at it, don’t miss out on Hard West 2, which has just entered early access.

Anyway, if you think April has been a real drought for the games industry, let me tell you about May. Judging by what’s on the list, the vast majority of the titles coming out next month are indies, but that’s quite alright because there are some exciting new games that I definitely want to try.

One of the first game to make its debut next month is Adios Amigos: Galactic Explorers, which has been confirmed to arrive on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on May 3, followed by Wildcat Gun Machine (PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch) on May 4.

One of the biggest launches of the month, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters is set for release for PC on May 5. A couple of other exciting new indie games are expected to arrive on the same day, including Line War (PC), Citizen Sleeper (PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), and Trek to Yomi (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S).

Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit is coming to PC on May 6. Several days later, three new games are slated for release: We Were Here Forever (PC), Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), and Songs of Conquest (Steam Early Access). All three will be available on May 10, if nothing wrong happens.

The brutal, soulslike Salt and Sacrifice has been confirmed for release on PC, PlayStation 4/5 on May 10 too, followed by two other games on May 11: Brigandine The Legend of Runersia (PC) and Source of Madness (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch).

We’ve not yet burned through the first part of the month and another quartet of new games is expected to launch on May 12, although many of these are Early Access titles. First off, there’s Cantata and Achilles: Legends Untold, which will both be available as part of Early Access projects. Secondly, Flippin Kaktus launches on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, alongside The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story, which is set to arrive on PC, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch.

The last game coming out in the first part of May is Evil Dead: The Game (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), which is now expected to launch on May 13 after multiple delays.

Another of the “bigger” releases scheduled for next month is Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong, which is coming out on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch) on May 19. Dolmen is another multiplatform title that’s expected to release on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on May 20.

As we’re getting closer to the end of the month, we still have a couple of high-profile games to list. Koei Tecmo’s Touken Ranbu Warriors is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch on May 24, alongside Hardspace: Shipbreaker, which will leave Steam Early Access on the same day.

On the other hand, Crossfire: Legion will actually enter Steam Early Access on May 24. The fifth installment in the Sniper Elite franchise is coming out on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on May 26.

Last but not least, the “sequel” to My Time at Portia, My Time at Sandrock enters  Steam Early Access on May 26, Kao the Kangaroo jumps on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on May 27.
