Without a doubt 2023 shapes up to be one of the best years in gaming ever, and we’re just halfway through. With titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Dead Space Remake, Diablo IV, Octopath Traveler II, Final Fantasy XVI, Metroid Prime Remastered, and Fire Emblem Engage already launched this year and a bunch more even more exciting coming in the second half, 2023 has been truly great.

While July 2023 feels like one of the weakest months of the year, let’s just think of it as the silence before the storm. August will bring several heavy hitters, including Lies of P, Baldur’s Gate 3, Armored Core 6, and Sea of Stars. Until then, let’s see what’s coming to PC and consoles in July.

The first few days of the month are uneventful, but come July 4th, one of the first games to launch in July, Synapse, will be hitting PlayStation VR2. The VR game will be followed just two days later by Gylt (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), The Past Within (Nintendo Switch), and Alterium Shift (Steam Early Access).

One of the bigger titles slated for a July release, The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie is expected to land on PC, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch on July 7. Part of the Trails series, which part of the larger The Legend of Heroes franchise, Trails into Reverie was originally released in Japan on PlayStation 4 back in 2020, followed one year later by PC and Nintendo Switch ports.

What we’re getting on July 7 is the English release, which will additionally be ported to PlayStation 5. The new entry in the Trails franchise is the end of the series’ Crossbell and Erebonia arcs.

Another port that we’ll be getting next month involves The Valiant, a real-time strategy game set in 13th Century Europe and the Middle East. Initially launched on PC back in October 2022, the game will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on July 11.

The long-awaited sequel to Oxenfree finally has a release date. If you’re fan of indie games don’t miss out Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals coming to PC, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch on July 12. Another interesting indie game that we’ve already previewed, Testament: The Order of High Human is scheduled to be released on PC on July 13.

On the same day, Ed-0: Zombie Uprising is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, followed by CAPCOM dino-killing multiplayer shooter Exoprimal, which will launch on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on July 14.

A rather interesting indie title coming to Steam Early Access on July 14 is Earth Defender. A top-down shooter where you play as one of the last surviving humans on a post-apocalyptic Earth, Earth Defender promises an epic roguelike adventure.

Another major release happening next month is also part of a cult series, Jagged Alliance. The third major entry in the series is coming to PC on July 14, so if you’re a fan of turn-based strategy games, don’t forget to wishlist this on Steam.

Turn-based strategy fans seem to be spoiled in July, as another important game is making its debut next month. The sequel to Xenonauts will be released in Steam Early Access on July 18. You can read our preview for more details on Xenonauts 2.

Also, another Steam Early Access title, Coreborn: Nations of the Ultracore, will launch on July 18. If you’re into puzzles, we can’t recommend enough UFO: Unidentified Falling Objects, an indie game coming to PC on the same day, July 18. What seems to be one of the best-looking puzzle platformers, Viewfinder, is also coming to PC and PlayStation 4/5 on July 18.

EA’s surprise for 2023 is called Immortals of Aveum. The unexpected magic shooter will make its debut on PC PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on July 20. Three other games are scheduled to release on the same day as EA’s title: Nobunaga's Ambition: Awakening (PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch), Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes (PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch), and Unholy (PC).

As we’re nearing the end of the month, even more important titles are set for release. The Nintendo Switch exclusive Pikmin 4 arrives on July 21, while the sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on July 25.

Cute indie puzzle Puzzles for Clef is slated for release on PC on July 27, alongside Rightfully, Beary Arms, which is a Steam Early Access title. Fans of the fighting genre will be happy to know that Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons has been confirmed to be released for PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on July 27. It looks like July 27 will be a very busy day for gamers.

The last few days of the month are marked by a few indies and one big game release. Unveiled for the first time during Nintendo Direct back in February, Disney Illusion Island is making its debut on Nintendo Switch on July 28.

Venba is a cozy cooking game that tackles some serious topics. Inspired by immigrant families and communities in Toronto, the game features recipes based on food from the Southern area of India. The game is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on July 31.
