The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was supposed to be released in 2022, but Nintendo announced today that it needs more time to provide players with a well-polished gameplay experience. In a video published today, The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma said the team needs more time since Breath of the Wild 2 is a much bigger game than the original title.

According to Aonuma, the new release timeframe for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is Spring 2023. The Switch-exclusive sequel to one of the best RPGs of all time will introduce new gameplay mechanics and will allow players to explore the sky.

As previously announced, the adventure in this sequel will take place not just on the ground as in the previous game, but also in the skies above. However, the expanded world goes beyond that, and there will be an even wider variety of features you can enjoy, including new encounters and gameplay elements,” said Aonuma.

The apology video published today contains never-before-seen footage from the upcoming game, such as Link holding the Master Sword, which looks quite different than what we’ve been shown in the first game trailer.

Initially announced back in 2019, the sequel to Breath of the Wild doesn’t have an official name yet. Nintendo confirmed last year that the game will be released at some point in 2022, but today’s announcement pushes the launch date to 2023.

However, the delay doesn’t really come as a surprise considering the fact that the original game has been delayed too. Not to mention that the world is still recovering from a global pandemic.

Ultimately, we believe a 2023 release will weigh much better for Nintendo since 2022 has been pretty awesome so far when it comes to new games.
