Apple event taking place next week, no iPhone 12 expected

Apple will host its typical September event next Tuesday, but as compared to the previous years, the Cupertino-based tech giant is unlikely to announce any new iPhones this time.

And it’s all because the global health crisis has caused particular challenges for Apple and its suppliers, so the new-generation iPhone would arrive later this time, most likely in October.

According to the latest leaks, however, here’s what you can expect in the next couple of months from Apple.

First and foremost, the September 15 event will be mostly focused on the Apple Watch. And Apple leaker Jon Prosser says the company will unveil two different models, namely the Apple Watch Series 6 and a new so-called Apple Watch SE. Designed as a more affordable version of the Apple Watch, the SE model would follow in the footsteps of the iPhone SE, albeit right now, full information is obviously not available.

Then, Apple will take the wraps off the iPad 8 and the iPad Air 4, both of which will hit the shelves alongside the new smartwatches.

No 120Hz this year

And now, the bad news.

As we’ve known for a while, the new iPhone generation will be announced in October, and it looks like the production of this model has just started this week. iOS 14.1 will come pre-loaded on the iPhone 12 – this is because iOS 14 will ship to the existing iPhone models later this month.

Because Apple wants to pre-install the new iOS version on all these devices, there’s a good chance shipping won’t start until mid-October, the leaker says.

“iOS 14.1 won’t be complete until 10/9. They still have to install 14.1 on all the units. It’s literally impossible for them to ship these phones until mid-late next month. Would be shocked if they announced iPhone at the event,” Prosser says.

If you were hoping to get 120Hz on the new iPhones, well, you might be disappointed. Apple has apparently started the production of the iPhone 12 without a 120Hz display, so now the only hope is the upgrade would make its way to Apple smartphones with the 2021 generation.
