They’re placed in an L-shaped configuration

The iPhone X is now shipping to customers across the world, and even though it’s quite an expensive device, one brave Chinese customer couldn’t wait any longer for an official teardown and decided to do the whole thing on his own.

The video you see below, which by the way is in Chinese, so you’re not going to understand much of it unless you know the language, shows an iPhone X dismantled piece by piece, revealing some interesting bits of information about Apple’s new-generation model.

The most discussed of them all is the battery. As rumored earlier this year while the iPhone X was still in development, the device comes with an L-shaped battery pack that Apple installed under the hood in an attempt to make the most of the available space inside.

A larger typical rectangular battery pack would require the relocation of some components, so what Apple did was change the shape of the unit in order to use the available space easier without altering the layout too much.

Two batteries in L-shaped layout

What’s interesting is that Apple appears to have used two different battery packs that are connected to each other and which could power different capabilities, though that’s yet to be determined at this point. The batteries inside total 10.35wH / 3.81V which converts to 2716.5 mAh, so the iPhone X does feature increased capacity as compared to the iPhone 8 Plus, which sits at 10.28Wh and 2691 mAh.

The actual real-life performance of this battery configuration will probably be determined in the coming days as more people get the iPhone X, but Apple says that its anniversary model should “last up to 2 hours longer than iPhone 7.” In actual figures, this means up to 21 hours of talk time, a maximum of 12 hours of Internet use, and up to 13 hours of video playback.

And for what it’s worth, the iPhone X features fast charging, which Apple claims supports charging of up to 50 percent in 30 minutes, as well as wireless charging with Qi chargers.
