Electronics recovered thanks to AirTag tracking

Apple launched the AirTag exclusively as a way to keep track of our belongings, but because of its small form factor, people with malicious intents rapidly discovered the ugly side of the device.

The AirTag has therefore been used for all kinds of nefarious purposes, from stalking people to keeping an eye on cars, possibly with the final goal of stealing them.

Most recently, however, someone in South Australia discovered the good side of the AirTag. The GPS tracker managed to point the police specifically to the location where the thieves who stole a series of electronics were hiding, therefore helping recover all the goods in almost no time.

More specifically, a Sydney resident has recently revealed in an interview for the local media that someone broke into his car and stole super-expensive equipment, including a Sony camera, a GoPro, a notebook, a wallet, and so on. The total value of the stolen valuables reaches $7,000, so it’s pretty clear this was quite a hit for the thieves.

All devices were returned to the owner

However, the owner was actually using AirTags that were attached to his devices, including to the Sony camera. The thieves had no idea such new-generation technology was used to keep track of the devices, so they didn’t even attempt to remove the GPS trackers.

The owner reached out to the police and then provided the officers with location information offered by the AirTag. Paradoxically, the thieves were staying at the same hotel as the victim, and this is probably how they noticed the opportunity for a big hit.

The officers eventually managed to arrest the thieves, with all devices then returned to the owner, all thanks to the AirTag that brilliantly served its purpose. And of course, also thanks to the thieves who had no idea what that little device attached to the camera was supposed to do.
