Google keeps expanding in the IoT world, and one easy way to do this is to allow the Google Assistant to be used on more devices, essentially providing customers with the option of controlling everything hands-free.

And more recently, the search giant announced that Google Assistant would work on both freezers and air coolers, of course, after developers add such capabilities to devices.

While for many it sounds pretty cool to control their smart appliances with their voice, this isn’t something that shows up overnight, as Google has been trying to expand in this field for quite a while. And as 9to5Google notes, the company already offers Google Assistant for smart refrigerators, so today’s announcement pretty much comes as no surprise.

Expanding IoT market

Google explains that Google Assistant would be able to control all kinds of features that are provided by freezers, including switching them on and off, activating a specific mode, and adjusting the temperature. Other toggles would also be available for Google Assistant.

“Freezers are temperature-managing devices which may be adjusted to various mode settings, and may allow temperature monitoring,” Google explains.

As for air coolers, the assistant will be able to control the fan speed, the humidity and temperature settings, but also to turn on and off the device.

“Air coolers are devices that allow temperature cooling and humidity control. These devices are typically more lightweight and portable than air conditioners, and have a water tank attached. Air coolers may not support heating or setting exact temperatures. Interactions with air coolers may include changing the fan speed and humidity setting,” Google says.

Today’s announcement shows that the world of IoT is evolving at a super-fast pace and technologies like digital assistants further enhance the experience with devices that are part of this market. Certainly, there’s more to come in this regard, especially from Google, which wants Google Assistant to be the leading choice for those building smart devices.
