The Division is already one of the most ambitious titles of the first half of 2016 and the team at Ubisoft is announcing that it wants to significantly expand the experience during its first year on the market, offering a wide range of new content that should keep them engaged with the unique mix of shooter, role-playing game and MMO.

According to the official site, new tasks and challenges will be used to expand both the core story, which encourages players to cooperate to take New York back and the Dark Zone that is more focused on Player versus Player interactions.

A first free update for The Division will arrive in April, it is called Incursions and will introduce a new end-game activity that's built around squad play. It asks gamers to test their skills as they take on a powerful new enemy that can deliver powerful weapons and equipment.

Loot trading will also be featured and will allow gamers who are part of a group to share the items they pick up to make sure that they have more flexibility when creating their character's loadout.

In May The Division will introduce Conflict as a free update, expanding the Dark Zone mechanic will adding a new incursion that will take place in Columbus Circle, alongside other game tweaks.

The core game is set to arrive on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on March 8.

The first content drop that gamers have to spend money on is called Underground and is coming in June, allowing gamers to move through the tunnels that sit under New York, with groups of four coming face to face with a range of powerful new enemies.

Survival is the second expansion for the video game and seems to be centered around a new mode that asks groups of players to work together to gather resources and battle enemies in a hostile environment.

Finally, The Division will receive the Last Stand expansion during the winter, with a new and relentless foe being introduced to challenge even those players who have reached the level cap and have access to solid equipment.

Each expansion will also introduce more gear and new gameplay tweaks, and they will be offered for free to those who have bought a Season Pass, the Gold Edition or the Sleeper Agent and Collector's version of the video game.
