Chinese company working on Apple Watch-like smartwatch

Many have tried to clone the Apple Watch and release more affordable versions with a similar design, but up to this point, pretty much everyone failed to come up a similar device that would drive people away from buying the real product.

The Chinese electronics giant OPPO wants to give it a shot as well, so the company is now working on its very own Apple Watch-like smartwatch which could go live as soon as this year.

While the firm has so far remained tight-lipped on the majority of details about the watch, it uses an interesting teasing approach that has executives showing up in public wearing it.

Apple Watch-inspired design and feature lineup

As TechTree reports, the smartwatch was first teased nearly a year ago, and now it looks like OPPO is trying a different tactic to position it as a rival to the Apple Watch despite the obvious resemblance in terms of design.

For example, while OPPO has previously praised the circular dial and the build quality, something that the Apple Watch is very good at, the Chinese company now positions the device as a healthcare product that boasts features like an ECG monitor. Funny enough, the Apple Watch is the smartwatch that pioneered this feature, so the OPPO watch not only that’ll look just like Apple’s device, but will also sport similar capabilities.

Unsurprisingly, OPPO’s model also packs several fitness tracking features, again just like the Apple Watch.

No other information, such as the release date or pricing details, is available for the time being. However, OPPO is likely to launch it later this year at a price that will be a lot lower than the Apple Watch.

At this point, the Apple Watch Series 5 can be purchased in the United States starting from $399 for the base model.
