Turns out that not everything posted online is true

Rumour has it that the next Assassin’s Creed is going to be called Ragnarok and the players will get to know the Viking culture better. That rumor is fake.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise moved through time, forwards and backward, with no real goal, or at least this is what it looks from the outside. A game set in the Viking age would make sense, and it’s probably considered by Ubisoft, but it turns out that not everything that’s said online is true.

To be fair, details regarding the previous game in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, were leaked ahead of time. Those rumors proved to be true, so there was a good to fair chance that the current details about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok would also be true.

We have to respect the effort

Most rumors can be dismissed out of hand, but the information posted on 4Chan, along with screenshots, seemed at least plausible. A user on resetera gathered everything about the subject in one place, and it’s easy to see why the information looked real.

Whoever made an effort to fake it gathered interesting information like the name of the Narrative Director, Darby McDevvit, which was a nice touch. A set of screenshots were also made available, and this where the mistake was made.

If only the information was published, with no screenshots, it might have passed as real, but keen-eyed users on resetera noticed that, in some screenshots, there are some similarities with the Unity Blacksmith free assets.

It was nice to think about Assassin’s Creed with Vikings, even for a little while. Users don’t need to lose hope because E3 is just around the corner, and if there is anything to announce about an upcoming Assassin’s Creed game, that’s the place to watch for it.
