New information surfaces regarding the next-next iPhone

Apple is getting ready to take the wraps off the new iPhone in approximately 30 days, but since everyone expects this to be just a small redesign of the current model, interest in the 2017 version is on the rise.

And thanks to people with knowledge of the matter who have agreed to spill the beans online, we already have the first information on how the 2017 iPhone is going to look.

Japanese newspaper Nikkei claims that Apple is planning to make the 2017 iPhone entirely from glass, and there’s a good reason for this: next year, the company is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, so it wants to do it in style by launching a completely new model.

Since this year’s version is going to be a more or less dull unveiling (although we’re already drooling over the dual-camera system that’s likely to be offered on the Plus model), 2017 will bring many more exciting features that Apple is holding back for the 10th anniversary.

For example, in addition to a full glass casing (which, by the way, makes many think of the Samsung Galaxy S7, but we’re hearing that Apple is planning a slightly different approach, with a metal frame similar to the one on the iPhone 7), Cupertino is also expected to make the switch to OLED screens.

No bezels on the 2017 iPhone

And that’s not all. These OLED displays will practically ditch all bezels, and Apple is planning to incorporate all front-facing parts in the screen. The Touch ID sensor and the FaceTime camera could thus be buried in the display as part of a completely new design.

Nikkei claims Apple has already discussed the matter of a fully glass iPhone with Foxconn, one of its largest suppliers, which, in turn, contacted other parties to prepare for such a redesign.

This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about a glass-made iPhone, and John Gruber previously described this new design as “jaw-dropping,” saying that Apple wanted to create a no-bezel design with everything implemented in the display.

Certainly, that sounds super exciting for the Apple community, but since this year’s model hasn’t yet launched, it’s a bit too early to discuss the final plans that the company might have for the 2017 iPhone. Everything can change in a second, but it’s hard to hide the excitement if at least part of this is actually true.
