14 DAY TRIAL // It looks like 2019 will be a great year for Terminator fans. James Cameron is back at the franchise's helm, and the first movie in what could end up being a trilogy is set to arrive in theaters on October 23. This week we've learned that a game based on Cameron's sci-fi series will be released right after the movie.
Terminator: Resistance is a new single-player first-person shooter game developed by Teyon and published by Reef Entertainment. The title will be released for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 15 in Europe and December 3 in the United States.
The upcoming game is set 30 years after the Judgement Day apocalypse, during the “Future War” scenario, and lets players experience the events leading up to the decisive final battle for the fate of mankind in the war against the machines.
None of the Terminator movies exploited this specific period, which makes us wonder whether or not it's a tie in. However, we do know that players will take the role of a brand new hero in the Terminator universe, Jacob Rivers, a soldier in the Resistance led by John Connor.
Although not a high ranking officer in Connor's Resistance, Jacob soon learns that he's been targeted by the latest threat from Skynet and marked for termination. It looks like developers went with the standard scenario featured by most Terminator movies, which perfectly fits the FPS genre.
Players will be able to equip Jacob with an arsenal of plasma weaponry to run and gun or sneak and hack through post-apocalyptic environments. The developers have implemented a skill tree, which lets players level up Jacob in ways that better fit their playstyles.
Teyon also mentions that besides completing story missions, players can also take on side quests to help other NPCs in the game. No multiplayer mode has been announced for Terminator: Resistance.
