14 DAY TRIAL // As announced only a few weeks ago, Telegram is getting a Premium tier that will provide subscribers with a series of exclusive benefits over the free version.
Telegram Premium is available for $4.99 per month, and it is available starting this week on both iPhone and Android.
“All existing features that users have come to expect and rely on for nearly a decade remain free. Moreover, non-premium users will be able to enjoy some of Premium's benefits: for example, download the extra-large documents and view stickers sent by premium users, as well as tap to increase counters on premium reactions that were already added to a message,” Telegram explained in an official announcement.
As a result, Telegram will continue to be free for everyone who wants to use the service without paying, and the company says this isn’t going to change in the long term.
On the other hand, the Premium tier will help the company expand the service in a way that wouldn’t otherwise be possible without new funding sources.
“The contributions of premium subscribers will help improve and expand the app for decades to come, while Telegram will remain free, independent and uphold its users-first values, redefining how a tech company should operate,” it says.
Telegram Premium benefits
The Premium version of Telegram comes with double limits, so for instance, users can get access to a maximum of 1,000 channels, 20 chat folders, 4 accounts in just one app, 10 favorite stickers, and 400 GIFs.
Furthermore, the service allows 4GB uploads (up from a maximum 2GB per file), unlimited download speeds, voice-to-text, no ads in public channels, unique reactions, premium stickers, a special profile badge and support for animated profile pictures, as well as a premium app icon that will show on your home screen when you become a Premium subscriber.
