Telegram has released a new major update for the messaging platform, and one of the highlights is a tool to easily migrate from WhatsApp.

Beginning with the latest version of Telegram, the app allows users to move the chats from WhatsApp, all with just a few taps.

“To move a chat from WhatsApp on iOS, open the Contact Info or Group Info page in WhatsApp, tap Export Chat, then choose Telegram in the Share menu. On Android, open a WhatsApp chat, tap ⋮ > More > Export Chat, then choose Telegram in the Share menu,” Telegram explains.

The same thing for iOS, where users can export WhatsApp messages and then choose what Telegram contact they want to move the conversation to.

“The best part is that the messages and media you move don’t need to occupy extra space. Older apps make you store all data on your device – but Telegram can take up virtually no space while letting you access all your messages, photos and videos anytime you need them,” Telegram says.

The fight against fake channels continues

Today’s update also includes new privacy improvements, as the app now allows users to delete secret chats, groups, and the call history on both ends at the same time. So for example, if you want to delete a secret chat, you can do so not only on your device, but also on the one of the contact you were chatting with.

There’s also an option to report fake channels or groups to make sure you’re also chatting with the right organization.

“All Telegram apps let you report spam and other types of illegal content, including calls to violence or child abuse. Now you can also report fake channels or groups that impersonate famous people or organizations. Open their profile page and tap '…' > Report > Fake Account to let us know something fishy is going on. Our moderators will have a look,” the parent company explains.

The new app updates are already live on both Android and iPhone.
