Pop star is honored with Candie’s Choice Style Icon Award

Since her highly publicized 2007 meltdown, Britney Spears has kept public appearances down to a minimum. She still attends awards shows and walks red carpets, but because she doesn’t do media interviews as frequently as she did back in the day, they seem more noteworthy.

Last night’s Teen Choice Awards 2015, held at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, were a major win for the pop star, both as regards fashion and overall impressions. She was dressed to the nines like the Princess of Pop that she is, and she seemed more relaxed and happy than she did in a very long time.

But first, let’s talk fashion.

Britney isn’t exactly a daredevil when it comes to fashion, in the sense that she has long found what works for her and she sticks to the formula. This means that she doesn’t always stand out on a red carpet, but then again, she can’t possibly make a bad impression either.

Last night was one of those rare times when she and her people took a chance - and it paid off. She wore a sparkly Mikael D dress with a low-cut bust and an asymmetric helm, Le Silla shoes and jewelry by Jennifer Meyer.

She was playful but elegant at the same time, and the dress was in no danger of being too princess-y or ice-skat-y because it brilliantly played off against her newly-died colorful tips. She came to the event accompanied by her 2 boys and her niece, her brother’s daughter, to whom she dedicated her win.

Speaking of winning, she was presented with the Candie’s Choice Style Icon award, which was only fitting seeing how she’d been with the show since day one. When the Teen Choice Awards had its first edition, Britney was only 17 and she was one of the celebrities invited as presenters.

You can see her acceptance speech below in full.

Britney looks great, on all counts

What fans must have noticed too about Britney’s public appearances is that she tends to get this “deer caught in the headlights” look whenever she’s surrounded by a crowd of screaming photographers. She seems a bit more at ease on stage, but she’s not even half as comfortable speaking as she is performing.

There was none of that last night. If you check out the video below, you will see that she seemed at her happiest and most relaxed, even if she was still a bit guarded.

Rumor has it that there is no interest in lifting the conservatorship in her name, which bans her from making business and personal decisions without approval from her dad, who is the conservator, because she’s doing very well as is.

Clearly so.
