TCL, the company that owns the Alcatel brand, has just released a new smartphone, the TCL 950. While TCL isn't the biggest brand on the market, the company's latest smartphone stands out due to the fact that BlackBerry's next Android-running device will be based on it.

Indeed, rumors say that BlackBerry DTEK60 will actually be a rebranded TCL 950, which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering the specs of the freshly announced TCL 950. The smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, according to GizmoChina.

It doesn't provide QHD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels) like some of the flagships on the market, but it should be enough to satisfy the needs of many consumers. The screen has a maximum brightness level of 500 nits.

However, the screen on the BlackBerry DTEK60 might be upgraded to an impressive resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. Moving on, the TCL 950 will run one of the latest processors from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 820, which is found in many flagships on the market. In addition, it will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.

TCL comes with a 21MP rear camera with Sony sensor

When it comes to rear camera capacity, the TCL 950 packs a 21MP Sony IMX230 sensor with f/2.2 aperture and an 8MP selfie shooter in the front. It comes with a fingerprint scanner on the back, below the rear camera, and stereo speakers.

Moreover, the smartphone has a multi-function key that can be customized in multiple ways. Other than that, it has a 3,000mAh battery with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 for charging the battery faster.

The TCL 950 has glass panels both in the front and back, with an aluminum frame in the middle, and will be made available in Silver and Gold color variants. The device will go on sale in China today for the price of about $495.

TCL also announced the TCL 580 smartphone

TCL also unveiled another smartphone today, called TCL 580. The handset has a 5-inch AMOLED display and runs a MediaTek MT6750 processor with right Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz.

RAM capacity on the phone reaches 3GB, with 32GB of internal storage and a 13MP rear camera with Sony IMX258 sensors and PDAF. The smartphone has a 5MP camera in the front, a 2,460mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner on the back. TCL 580 will be made available for the price of $210 starting October 10 in China.
