CD Project as an amazing sense of humour

Now that The Witcher 3 - Hearts Of Stone DLC has been released by CD Project, it's up to the players to find new ways of cheating the monetary system once more. The developers are not standing idly by and they have already sent a Tax Collector after the ones who have been using various exploits.

Whenever you have a big game like The Witcher 3, with a complex economic system, you'll find ways of cheating it or at least exploit it for your gains. Some of these exploits are well known to the developers and regular studios usually close them with a new patch. CD Project is doing things a little bit differently.

Now, it looks like they have introduced a new NPC called Deputy Tax Enumerator (think IRS) that relies pretty much on the honesty of the players.

Instead of punishing players for exploiting a problem that was already there, the developers from CD Project chose to transform the entire situation into something that integrates perfectly into the game's world.

For example, the famous White Orchard exploit allowed players to kill a herd of cows, collect their hides, meditate for a couple of hours only to find that the heard has been respawned. This is just an oversight on the developers’ part, but it has been closed since then.

Truth will set you free

The Deputy Tax Enumerator will ask you if you engage in any kind of activities around the White Orchard by selling a ridiculous amount of cow hides or if you stole stuff from people's homes. The good news is that the tax collector doesn't assume you're guilty and will take your word for it if you say so.

On the other hand, if you admit to the wrongdoings, you will have to pay a 200% tax on those sales. Somewhere, hidden in a log, there is all the wrong that you've ever done in The Witcher 3.

The Hearts Of Stone DLC was released yesterday and it brings a new major campaign that should last over 10 hours. WhatsMyGame posted a video of the Deputy Tax Enumerator in action on YouTube.
