The hybrid smartwatch will feature customizable lugs

TAG Heuer is one of the newcomers in the smartwatch business, but the Swiss company has a vast experience in designing and manufacturing watches. The latest product released on the market, the TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch, is selling very well.

In fact, sales for the TAG Heuer Connected are well above the company's expectations, the more reason to launch another smartwatch as soon as possible. Although it planned to sell 20,000 units of its TAG Heuer Connected wearable device, the Swiss manufacturer sold more than 50,000 smartwatches.

The folks over at AndroidCentral report that sources familiar with the watch company claim a new smartwatch will be launched in mid-March. However, it will be completely different from any other product released on the market until now.

The next smartwatch coming from TAG Heuer will be modular. It will be sold on the market as TAG Connected Modular and it should be officially unveiled on March 14. Unfortunately, information about its price tag and availability hasn't been leaked yet.

However, we do know for sure that it will run Android Wear 2.0 right out of the box. Also, the hybrid smartwatch will feature customizable lugs, as well as straps and clasps.

On top of that, the report also claims the TAG Connected Modular smartwatch will feature a custom automatic watch head module that enables users to switch between a digital connected Android Wear 2.0 and a more standard automatic movement.

If the report is accurate, then we don't expect the TAG Connected Modular to be showcased at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 later this week. Still, we do expect the smartwatch to cost a small fortune.

Nothing else is known about what could be the world's first modular smartwatch, but we believe more details will leak by the time TAG Heuer announces its next product.
