A very challenging tongue-in-cheek platforming game

Jump King, the non-traditional platformer launched on PC by developer Nexile last year, will make its debut PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in 2020. Jump King is a challenging, tongue-in-cheek platforming game that challenges players to climb a huge tower to rescue the legendary “Smoking Hot Babe.”

Dubbed as a “tactical leaping adventure,” Jump King features multiple paths to the top, so experimenting with different routes and tactics is encouraged. The game also saves whenever you make a bit of progress, but it also saves your setbacks.

Jump King was made to make you look silly. It makes jumping, something often taken for granted in games, into the sole challenge of the game! It looks quite stupid - why are people having trouble jumping with simple three-button controls? But once you give it a try you understand why and get sucked into the engaging game loop! It is a modern idea in a captivating and nostalgic package that we think will hit the spot for console gamers,” said Felix Wahlström of Nexile.

Developers warn though that Jump King is so difficult that it can drive a hardcore gamer to tears, yet it's accessible enough due to its simple controls and mechanics, that anyone can overcome its challenges.

Jump King does no play like a traditional platformer, as players must set themselves in the position they want, charge their jump, aim, then let gravity do its thing. If they manage to land on a ledge, it means they made progress. Otherwise, it's a setback that must be corrected with another jump.

Jump King has caused our team so much pain and anguish that we lost our sanity and decided we must introduce the rest of the world to this hell we have wrought. Its conclusion still eludes me, but one day I know I will conquer it. One day...” said Paul Hann of UKIYO Publishing.
