Benoît Sokal, the creator of the Syberia franchise, announced that a new one in the series is already under development.

There are just a few point-and-click adventure games in history that managed to capture the imagination of players like Syberia. It’s the kind of games that survives across generations in a way that very few managed over the years.

Three Syberia games were released over the years. The first one made its debut back in 2002, followed by the second one in 2004, and Syberia 3 in 2017. Unfortunately, it’s best not to talk about the third one, as it did rise to the expectations.

In the works for more than a year

The Microïds studio managed to stay alive, with its principal director, Benoît Sokal, at the helm of the projects. The new Syberia: The World Before follows the adventure of Kate Walker, just like in the previous installments.

“Today, I’m very happy to be able to continue Kate’s journey and share this adventure once again with the team at Microïds. We want to give the fans a story with an atmosphere that’s just as mysterious as the previous episodes, with even more automatons to operate, puzzles to solve and unusual characters to meet. I can’t wait to share more of the game’s progress and universe with you.” says Benoît Sokal, Artistic Director and author of the story.

There’s no indication regarding the launch date or supported platforms, but we can only hope it’s sooner rather than later. Adventure games are going through a small resurgence, and more are being developed right now.

Syberia was different because it brought a level of storytelling that simply wasn’t present in other titles back in 2002. But things have changed a lot since then, and “Syberia: The world before” needs to do something inspiring to compete.
