14 DAY TRIAL // With the exception of his highly publicized and very short romance with singer Taylor Swift, Jake Gyllenhaal doesn’t like to make a show of the ladies he dates. This could explain why it’s been almost a month since he’s been “hooking up” with Susan Sarandon and we only get word of it now.
Celebrity tabloid The National Enquirer claims to have it on good authority that the two are a thing. Whether they plan on going public soon or have decided to keep it a secret is not known yet.
Susan Sarandon has a new boytoy
Obviously, since this is the Enquirer we’re talking about, the report should be taken with a grain of salt. It claims that the 2 have been dating in secret for a while and that they set “tongues wagging” on August 6, when they were very smiley and openly flirty with each other at the premiere of his latest movie, the boxing drama “Southpaw.”
One photo snapped on the occasion is included above: it shows Susan looking up at Jake and, while it could be taken to mean that she appears smitten (or anything along those lines), it could also be just a photo of 2 people who know and like each other sharing a joke.
The Enquirer says it’s the former, partly because her ex was also much younger than her: after she split from her partner of 22 years Tim Robbins, she started dating 38-year-old Jonathan Bricklin.
At 34, Jake is 4 years junior to her ex.
“The rumor is they’ve been hooking up on the down-low,” an insider is quoted as saying. “A lot of people are hoping they go with the flow and give it a shot!”
We might never know, even if the rumor is true
As noted above, Jake is very protective of his private life, which means that he manages to fly under the radar most of the time. Every once in a while, we get a rumor about a new love interest and possibly a few paparazzi shots, but that’s all there is to it.
He is just as discreet in media interviews, refusing to speak about his love life in anything but vague terms. For instance, on the “Southpaw” promo trail, he told Howard Stern he wanted to start a family some day and that he was a romantic because he believed in soulmates. He had simply not found his, but he wasn’t giving up hope.
Susan is just as media-shy when it comes to these things. In other words, even assuming there’s some grain of truth to this story, chances are we might never find out for sure.
