Save Tokyo from paranormal threats beyond understanding

Ghostwire: Tokyo was revealed last year at E3, but aside from a short teaser and some explanations on the stage, very few details about the game were available until last week. Developed by the team at Tango Gameworks and Shinji Mikami, the mastermind behind the original Resident Evil game and The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo is just as hellish as the other two.

In Ghostwire: Tokyo, players must defend the city from paranormal threats beyond their comprehension. Apparently, a massive occult event leads to the disappearance of 99 percent of the city's population, so it's up to you and your supernatural abilities to save Tokyo.

All supernatural abilities can be upgraded, a much-needed game mechanic since you'll be fighting formidable evil spirits called The Visitors, which are roaming the city of Tokyo. Some of them are shown in the new gameplay trailer that was presented during The Future of Gaming event last week.

But there's more to the game than just hunting evil spirits. At the heart of the plot is a shadowy group wearing “Hannya” masks, so it's up to you to determine their motives and unveil the mystery.

We’re particularly excited by the possibility of players experiencing our modern, yet Visitor-filled city with 3D sound. This version of Tokyo is not a version you’ve ever seen or heard before. In Ghostwire: Tokyo, you’ll hear and encounter sounds that you normally would not hear in the city in real life. Our hope is that with the 3D sound, you will feel compelled to seek out and identify what is causing those sounds you hear,” says Kenji Kimura, Game Director on Ghostwire: Tokyo.

Sadly, Ghostwire: Tokyo is not a PlayStation 5 launch title, and according to developers the game won't be out until 2021. The good news is Ghostwire: Tokyo will also be released on PC alongside the PlayStation 5 version.
