The launch date for the game is February 16

The launch date for Street Fighter V has been revealed by Capcom and its February 16, 2016, but that's hardly the interesting piece of news. From the looks of it, Street Fighter V will also integrate a microtransaction system.

Microtransactions are pretty much the bane of existence for gaming, especially on PCs and consoles. Now, Capcom is preparing for itself a special place in the PR Hell by announcing that it will add microtransactions to the game. To make matters worse, they are implementing this transaction for players who want to unlock the characters made available to all players.

The idea behind this probably sounds really good on paper, and it's easy to believe it. All the characters that will be added to the game after the launch, until 2017 mind you, will be unlockable with Fight Money, which is actually an in-game currency. That's all well and good, but players who don't play often enough to gather this in-game currency will have to pay for those characters with "premium currency" named Zenny, meaning real money.

Street Fighter V with microtransactions is not a good idea

Earning Fight Money is a complicated process and can be done with daily goals and by leveling individual characters. It's a complex system, but the gist is that people who don't play enough will have to pay to get the new characters.

"Also, we have just announced that we’re releasing six additional characters post-launch in 2016.  As mentioned previously, all post-launch gameplay related content will be earnable with Fight Money, and we have revealed the first details on how players will be able to earn Fight Money when the game comes out. For those who just can’t wait to earn each piece of new content, content can also be purchased instantly using our premium currency, named Zenny, which can be bought with real money."

Capcom's announcement regarding Street Fighter V microtransactions didn't really register with the community, but things will probably change after the February 16 launch.
