Cyberattacks on NATO allies are one of the targets to be addressed at a summit next week in Brussels, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in Washington on Monday, according to La Prensa Latina.

Stoltenberg said after meeting with US president Joe Biden at the White House that “We see more frequent, and we see more sophisticated cyberattacks against NATO Allies, also the United States".

Stoltenberg also accused Russia and China of using military force against neighbors, intimidating neighbors and interfering with freedom of navigation.

In addition to that, he stressed that China “will soon have the biggest economy in the world. They already have the second largest defense budget, they are investing heavily in new modern capabilities, they have the biggest Navy in the world. And they don’t share our values”.

Stoltenberg went to the Pentagon to meet with U.S. Defense Secretary Gen. Lloyd Austin before the meeting with Biden.

Soltenberg believes Russia is to blame for cyberattacks on NATO members

Stoltenberg said at the meeting that Russia was behind cyber and hybrid attacks in NATO countries. Regarding China, NATO did not perceive it as an adversary, stressing the possibility of working on trade, climate change, and arms control.

Biden will attend the NATO summit in Brussels on June 14 as part of a European trip that will take him first to Britain for a G7 meeting. Afterward, he will go to NATO headquarters and finally to Switzerland to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The US president has placed this trip in the context of repairing relations with his traditional European partners. These kinds of meetings are necessary because relations between the United States and European countries deteriorated during Donald Trump's administration.

The G7 conference in Cornwall, England, will also discuss the growing threat of cyberattacks.

According to White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, the U.S. needs an action plan that includes how to address collective defenses against ransomware attacks, share information about risks, and deal with the problems posed by cryptocurrencies.
