Windows phones no longer seem to have a future in Microsoft’s mobile vision, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone’s ready to give up on the platform.

Diehard fans who just don’t want to abandon Windows phones can turn flagship handsets into the engine powering their office work with a device manufactured by Miraxess and available from just $249.

Mirabook is a laptop which comes without a CPU and memory, but instead gets its power from a Lumia 950 XL, Alcatel IDOL Pro 4, Acer Liquid Jade, or HP Elite X3.

The device makes use of Continuum and comes with a 13.3-inch 1080p screen and several connectivity options allowing for a series of peripherals to be plugged in, including one USB-C for a different device, another USB-C for charging, two USB-A 3.0 ports, one HDMI output, one headphone jack, and a microSD card slot.

10 hours of battery life while charging your phone

The device promises to offer up to 10 hours of battery life with the Windows phone connected and charging all the time, so for the typical 9 to 5 office worker, this should be more than enough.

While the idea isn’t new and several other similar devices are already on the market, Mirabook launching only now shows that some companies still believe Windows phones deserve a chance, though Miraxess appears to be having a backup plan as well, just in case Microsoft’s mobile platform doesn’t attract too many buyers.

The Mirabook should also work with Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ and the Note 8 using the DeX interface, but also with the Huawei Mate 10 with the EMUI desktop, so Android users could also find this useful.

As onMSFT noted, the Mirabook is now available for pre-order, yet there’s no word just yet on when exactly it is expected to ship. You can pre-order the device in six different colors and three keyboard layouts, with pricing beginning at $249.
