The team at the Paradox Development Studio is confirming that it is working on a new title called Stellaris, which was first revealed via a leak linked to the Greenlight service from Steam, designed to introduce classic grand strategy mechanics to a space setting.

The lead developer working on the new title is Henrik Fahraeus, who previously led the creation of Crusader Kings II.

Paradox states, "For millennia our race has developed, explored and battled for control of a planet. Now we turn our eyes beyond our own solar system, to other stars in our galaxy. New planets, new discoveries, maybe even new civilizations await us."

Exploration will be one of the core elements of Stellaris and gamers will have to deal with a complex research system that will initially challenge them to simply understand what the human race is finding and how it can be used to its advantage.

A dynamic decision system will also be part of the game.

Stellaris will use procedurally generated star systems, and the game will have thousands of planets that gamers will be able to find, colonize and maybe destroy.

The races that gamers will deal with will also be randomly created, ensuring a high degree of replayability.

Stellaris will also offer extensive diplomatic interactions

Paradox Development Studio is saying that the options that gamers have when it comes to dealing with other civilizations will make Picard of Star Trek fame look like an amateur, but no more details about the system are offered.

Ships can be customized in Stellaris, but the company is not yet saying how combat will work and whether gamers will be able to control their fleets.

The team also needs to offer more details on how colonization, trade and other core mechanics of the game will work.

Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV are very solid games, each of them with unique elements, and it will be interesting to see how the grand strategy mechanics can revolutionize space strategy.

Paradox is not saying when it plans to launch Stellaris, but when it arrives, it's very likely that it will only be offered on the PC.
