14 DAY TRIAL // Obviously, Disney could not leave its most hyped franchise out of the ongoing D23 Expo 2015. On the second day of the highly anticipated event, the studio delivered the goods on plans regarding “Star Wars,” which it will be rebooting starting December 2015, with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
First things first, the film got an official poster - and it includes illustrations by famous poster artist Drew Struzan, a familiar name to any true “Star Wars” fan because of his impressive work on many releases from the franchise.
You can see it in the gallery below. It’s very likely that Disney won’t release it as the official promo poster because of how much it appeals to loyal fans (and they’re looking to draw in new segments of the audience as well), so it will probably turn into a collector’s item.
Shown on it are Finn (John Boyega), wielding Luke Skywalker’s blue lightsaber, Ray (Daisy Ridley) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford). The visuals are typical, old-school “Star Wars” fare, so no wonder it was received with glowing reviews by the fans.
Also at the event, Disney made public the first official photo from the anthology film “Star Wars: Rogue One.” The anthology series will help the studio expand on the existing universe, introducing new characters and further exploring older themes.
The film is directed by Gareth Edwards, who previously helmed “Godzilla,” and will be out in December 2016. It stars Felicity Jones, Jiang Wen, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed and Donnie Yen, and you can see the first photo from it in the gallery below.
At the Expo, Disney confirmed the new additions to the cast, and they include Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn, and Forest Whitaker.
