The Star Wars Battlefront II Night on Endor update is finally live on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation IV, and it brings back microtransactions, but only for appearances. And it has Ewoks too.

Following the harrowing aftermath that followed the launched of the Star Wars Battlefront II, with its credit and microtransaction system, Electronic Arts had to sizable it entirely. The publisher didn’t expect such blowback from the community, not to mention that the sales were much lower than anyone could have anticipated.

The microtransactions were patched out of the game, and now, with the launch of Night on Endor they have been reintroduced, albeit in a very different manner. Rumors about EA’s intentions to bring back the microtransactions were floating around for a while, but no one knew what they wanted to do, exactly.

With the latest update in Star Wars Battlefront II, a new mode called Ewok Hunt mode has been added to the game, although it’s said to be only a temporary thing.

“In Ewok Hunt, you start as an Ewok or in a group of stormtroopers. The ambush begins as Ewoks attack unsuspecting stormtroopers, using spears, Wisties, and other skills to take down their opponents. Each stormtrooper defeated spawns as another Ewok, multiplying until the Empire’s forces have been completely eliminated, and the Ewok celebration can begin.”

While that sounds easy, we have to remember that Stormtroopers are very well equipped and have great aim (sic!), making them a worthy adversary. All they have to do is to resist the assault until reinforcements arrive.

As for the microtransactions, Crystals have been added back to the game, and they can be used to unlock Appearances, which include Endor Leia and Endor Han. Real money can be used to purchase Crystals, but they are redeemable only for Appearances. Furthermore, credits can be won in-game as well, and more than 50 new Appearances have been implemented with this new update.

It remains to be seen how the community will receive it, but it sounds like the kind of thing that should have been implemented from the start.
