The development team at Cloud Imperium Games is announcing that it has recruited some major stars to be part of the coming Star Citizen, with a range of well-known Hollywood actors getting roles in the single-player focused Squadron 42 experience.

The company explains that Gary Oldman will be one of the most important presences in the game, becoming Admiral Bishop, who delivers a stirring speech in the newly launched trailer for the title.

The cast of Star Citizen: Squadron 42 will also include Gillian Anderson, who is best known for her role in X-Files and The Fall, Mark Hamill, the original Luke Skywalker, Andy Serkis, the man who played Gollum, and John Rhys-Davies.

Their roles have not been confirmed, which is a sign that Cloud Imperium Games is not yet ready to offer details about the narrative that will power the campaign.

Squadron 32 is designed to offer an experience that is linked to the classic Wing Commander and sees the players enlist in the Navy of the United Empire of Earth and then be sent to the front to take part in a major space battle.

Star Citizen is a very ambitious project

Gamers who play Squadron 42 will be able to play classic space-based battles while also using a first-person shooter module for boarding engagements.

The development team is also promising a conversation system that will influence the attitude of other pilots and there are plans to deliver some rewards in Star Citizen for those who play the narrative-focused experience.

At the moment, it's unclear when Squadron 42 will be launched to those who supported the game via Kickstarter or other crowdfunding services.

Initially, gamers will get a first set of missions, and there are already plans for a second and a third one that should be offered about one year apart.

Recently, Star Citizen has been hit by accusations that the leader of the development team, Chris Roberts, cannot settle on the core features of the title and that he is spending development money too fast.

Cloud Imperium Games has replied that the game is on track and that it will soon deliver more playable content to gamers to show the progress that's being made.
