Japanese publisher Square Enix has just revealed its first game for the next-generation consoles: Outriders. The game will be launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC in holiday 2020, but PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will be released as well.

Outriders is a co-op RPG shooter developed by People Can Fly, the studio behind Gears of War: Judgment and Bulletstorm, and Square Enix External Studios, the minds behind Sleeping Dogs and Just Cause.

It’s incredibly exciting to finally reveal what we have been working on for the last four years. Outriders is our first game since leaving Epic Games, and has grown from an idea of the game we always wanted to make to the most ambitious project People Can Fly has ever undertaken,” said Bartek Kmita, Game Director at People Can Fly.

The game is set in an original, dark, sci-fi universe, in a time when mankind is desperately trying to survive. Players will create their own Outrider and embark on a journey across a hostile planet. Square Enix promises rich storytelling, a diverse world, intense gunplay with violent powers, as well as an arsenal of increasingly twisted weaponry and gear sets.

After draining Earth of all resources, humanity is now looking for a new home. The alien planet Enoch seems the perfect place to become the cradle of a new civilization. Unfortunately, things are not as bright as they seem and the first people arriving are robbed of their humanity by a strange anomaly. In return, the so-called Outriders receive special powers that had turned them into killing machines.

An Outriders reveal stream featuring Game Director, Barket Kmita, Lead Writer, Joshua Rubin, and host, Malik Forte, is set to debut on February 13 at 12:00 pm Pacific Time. The stream will be hosted on Twitch on Square Enix's official channel.
