Spotify patents new technology to determine your mood

Spotify is currently the world’s number one music streaming service, and this means the company has the big responsibility of investing in more and more innovations that would experience the listening experience for customers across the world.

And as it turns out, Spotify has found a way to make sure you’re always listening to the right music.

According to a report, Spotify has recently patented a new technology that will allow the service to determine your mood and play the right music.

For example, the mobile application will be able to listen to your intonation, stress, and rhythm to determine if you are happy, angry, sad, or neutral, Depending on its finding, it would start playing different music, all in an attempt to match your mood.

Just a patent for the time being

Spotify already offers different playlists based on the mood of the user, but right now, everybody needs to select them manually.

So presumably, Spotify wants to push the whole thing a step further by automatically playing one of these lists based on the algorithm detailed above, eventually offering users a more straightforward experience from one end to the other.

Needless to say, the whole thing sounds like science fiction, and for some, it’s certainly something they wouldn’t agree using, especially because Spotify would need access to the microphone in order to listen to what you’re saying and run the analysis detailed above.

For the time being, everything is still in the patent stage, and this shouldn’t by any means be used as a confirmation that a certain feature is coming. There’s a good chance Spotify gives up on the idea completely overnight if it finds it too hard to implement, so you’d better not hold your breath for such capabilities to launch anytime soon.
