14 DAY TRIAL // SpellForce is no longer an old IP that we remember with a certain degree of nostalgia. The series that made a splash in early 2000 is now a well-established franchise that is getting new content every few years.
After the IP was picked up by THQ Nordic back in 2012, the publisher released an expansion to SpellForce 2 called Demons of the Past, as well as SpellForce 3, which made its debut just three years ago.
Last year, the series got another standalone expansion – Soul Harvest, but publisher THQ Nordic and developer Grimlore Games have another surprise for SpellForce fans this year. A brand-new standalone expansion has just been revealed – SpellForce 3: Fallen God, which introduces the trolls and lots of gameplay improvements.
Fallen God offers a single-player campaign that promises around 15 hours of entertainment. Since it's a standalone expansion, players won't be required to own or have played any of the previous titles, although it's recommended for an easier adjustment to SpellForce's gameplay formula that blends real-time strategy and RPG elements.
In SpellForce 3: Fallen God, players will lead the trolls on an epic adventure across a new continent called Urgath. The expansion brings not just a new faction, but also new abilities and skill trees for more customizable heroes.
More importantly, the story campaign has multiple endings based on the decisions players are making throughout the journey. Also, the introduction of the new character-shaping mechanic should add true replayability value. Another interesting new feature is the ability to salvage weapons to craft superior equipment for heroes and their supporting armies.
The new faction comes with brand-new mechanics that veterans of the series will have to learn to master to be successful. SpellForce 3: Fallen Gods doesn't have a release date yet, but we know it's coming in 2020. Make sure to wishlist the standalone expansion on Steam to learn more about its availability.
