The smartphone is a toned-down variant of Axon 7

ZTE released its latest flagship, the Axon 7, in late May and made it available in Europe and the US shortly after that. The handset comes with some high-end specs for a really affordable price, and now it seems that ZTE is preparing to launch a toned-down variant of the smartphone.

According to new information that has surfaced over at Media Markt, ZTE is working on Axon 7 mini, which will have less powerful specs as compared to the Axon 7. Word is that the device will sport a 5.2-inch display with 1080p resolution.

The phone will pack a Snapdragon 617 processor and have 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. In addition, rear camera capacity will reach 16MP while an 8MP unit will be featured on the front, as compared to Axon 7's 20MP rear camera with closed-loop instant autofocus, OIS, and f/1.8 aperture, as well as its 8MP front camera.

ZTE Axon 7 mini is said to come with a 2,705mAh battery

Battery capacity is higher on the Axon 7, namely 3,250mAh with Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0, whereas the Axon 7 mini is capable of only to 2,705mAh. In addition, Axon 7 mini will have more compact dimensions, 71 mm x 147.5 mm x 7.8 mm and weigh 153 grams.

The Axon 7 came with a 5.5-inch QHD (2560x1440) 2.5D curved AMOLED display, and it was made available in two variants, one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the second with 6GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. The first version offered the possibility of expanding the memory to 128GB by using a microSD card.

In addition, the smartphone runs Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, coupled with Adreno 530 graphics processing unit.

The handset runs Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 and has MiFavor 4.0 UI on top. It also comes with fingerprint 3.0 recognition and is compatible with Google's virtual reality platform Daydream.
