Analyst says Apple to stick with bigger screens for iPhones

Apple is very close to launching a new-generation iPhone, including a 5.8-inch model that would come with super-narrow bezels and all kinds of novelties, but part of the Apple userbase still drools after a 4-inch device similar to the iPhone SE.

While the iPhone SE wasn’t actually a hit, it’s no secret that there were lots of Apple fans out there who were happy to see a new 4-inch model, buying it to replace their old iPhone 4 or iPhone 5.

But as it turns out, Cupertino has no plans to launch a new-generation 4-inch iPhone, with the SE model to be the last device with such a size. That’s what analyst Pan Jiutang says, pointing out that Apple will go forward with a completely new iPhone series that would be based on screens with sizes of 4.7 inches, 5.5 inches, and 5.8 inches.

No iPhone SE 2

And while the 4-inch iPhone is all but confirmed to be scrapped from Apple’s plans, not much is known about the company’s strategy for future iPhones, especially given all the rumors regarding the transition to OLED displays.

This year’s generation will include for the very first time a total of 3 different iPhone models from the very beginning, while the 2018 lineup could include a new change that would see Apple either dropping to just 2 configurations or replacing the Plus version with a possibly called Pro SKU.

The iPhone SE was mostly supposed to convince users of old iPhones to upgrade to latest-generation hardware capable of running the most recent versions of iOS. Sales of the device, however, have barely impressed, and now that Apple prepares to refresh the entire lineup, such a model doesn’t make much sense for the future iPhone series.

The iPhone SE can still be purchased in the majority of markets, with pricing in the United States starting at $399 for the 32GB version.

UPDATE: A new report claims that Apple actually plans to launch a new iPhone SE next month, as the company wants to offer customers across the world a more affordable iPhone model.
