It's still unclear how many Xperia Z6 smartphones Sony Mobile will launch next year, but if we are to believe all the rumors having emerged in the last couple of months, there will be no less than six models coming next year.

We have already reported about five possible Xperia Z6 variations that might be launched in the first and second quarters of 2016: Xperia Z6 Mini, Xperia Z6 Compact, Xperia Z6, Xperia Z6 Plus, and Xperia Z6 Ultra.

Today, a new rumor regarding Sony's smartphone roadmap for 2016 surfaced online directly from China. According to sources in the industry, the Japanese company plans to launch another Xperia Z6 smartphone next year, aside from those five already mentioned earlier.

The smartphone is dubbed Sony Xperia Z6 Lite and is expected to be unveiled sometime in May 2016. The main selling point is likely to be the lower price in comparison with Sony's flagship smartphone.

It will cost less than $400 outright

Some of the leaked specs suggest the Xperia Z6 Lite will sport a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with unknown resolution. It could be full HD (1080p) or HD (720p) resolution, but it's unclear at the moment.

On the inside, the unannounced smartphone will be powered by a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor (also known as Snapdragon 618).

These are all the known specs mentioned in the leak, but the same source also claims the Xperia Z6 Lite might cost only $385 outright.

Design-wise, we only know the Xperia Z6 Lite will feature a metal battery cover and a unibody design. We also expect that there won't be any changes when it comes to the phone's overall form factor and looks.

Even though competition is always good for the consumer, six Xperia Z6 smartphones in such a short time is a bit of an overkill for Sony. Still, since these are just unconfirmed rumors, we shouldn't be worried about the Japanese company's product roadmap just yet.
