The smartphone might be showcased behind closed doors

Sony is going to be present at Mobile World Congress later this month, the Japanese company confirmed back in January. A press conference where we expect a couple of Xperia smartphones to be unveiled has been confirmed to take place on February 27.

Although we've been tipped about a couple of mid-range Android smartphones coming from Sony, what we'd really like to see is a brand new flagship device, the successor of the Xperia Z5.

Apparently, Sony has something else in mind, as well-known leakster @Ricciolo1 claims. According to him, the Xperia Z5 Premium successor will definitely be present at MWC 2017, but the smartphone will not be officially introduced at the press conference.

Instead, the Japanese company will show the phone behind close doors. Those privileged to be among the first to see Sony's flagship smartphone will probably sign non-disclosure agreements, so we'll probably learn about the device much later.

The lack of enough Snapdragon 835 chips forces Sony to delay its flagship

We believe Sony has decided to delay its flagship because it doesn't have access to Qualcomm's powerful Snapdragon 835 processor, which will not be widely available until late April.

One of our previous reports mentioned the upcoming unveil of a premium Xperia smartphone that would boast an incredible 5.5-inch display that supports 4k (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution.

The said flagship goes by the code name Yoshino and is probably the flagship that will be shown behind close doors later this month at Mobile World Congress.

The smartphone is also rumored to pack an impressive camera featuring the company's new Sony IMX400 image sensor. It would include either 4GB or 6GB of LPDRR4 RAM inside, but the amount of storage is unknown.

Aside from the flagship smartphone that might not be officially introduced at MWC, Sony plans to unveil at least four other Xperia devices. We'll probably know more before the press conference starts though.
