14 DAY TRIAL // The Xperia J1 Compact is a mid-range Android smartphone that was officially launched by Sony back in March. Today, the Japanese company launched another version of the Xperia J1 Compact, which pays homage to Metal Gear Solid gaming franchise.
The new Sony Xperia J1 Compact: The Phantom Pain Edition has been officially introduced in Japan where it will sell for no less than 59,800 yen, which is about $480.
That's quite a lot for a mid-range smartphone, but fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise are likely to pay the amount because of the dedicated content and features it comes with.
First of all, the special edition Xperia J1 Compact has the Outer Heaven logo on the battery cover. For those who don't know, this is the base of the Big Boss in the Metal Gear Solid universe.
Furthermore, the handset comes with preloaded digital content related to Metal Gear Solid franchise including an $8 voucher that allows owners to grab some comics, novels and concept art in the same universe.
Also, the smartphone features personalized ringtones, wallpapers and two soundtracks from the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain game.
The same specs as the standard model
When it comes to specs, the special edition Xperia J1 Compact comes with the same hardware configuration as the standard model launched several months ago.
The phone is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.
On the back, the Xperia J1 Compact boasts a 20.7-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 2.2-megapixel selfie camera.
The smartphone sports a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution, as well as a 2,300 mAh battery.
According to Sony, the Xperia J1 Compact: The Phantom Pain Edition will only be available in Japan, but this might change later on if the smartphone becomes popular in this country.
