Both smartphones are getting OTA updates this week

Japanese company Sony Mobile has just announced that two mid-range smartphones that were launched on the market last year will receive Android 5.1 Lollipop updates.

The Xperia C4 and Xperia C5 Ultra smartphones have already been confirmed to receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrades, but Sony has yet to announce when that will happen.

Both devices were launched with Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, so an upgrade to Android 5.1 is more than welcome.

According to Sony, Android 5.1 Lollipop updates will be available for both smartphones starting this weekend. To check for available updates wirelessly, you will have to head over to Settings / About phone / Software update.

As expected, availability of wireless updates depends on your country and / or operator, so you might be able to download it via Sony's PC Companion application only.

Bug fixes and enhancements

Unfortunately, Sony has yet to release an official changelog for this update, so there's no telling what new features they include until one actually upgrades the smartphones.

The only thing mentioned by Sony Mobile is the fact that the new software update includes its latest bug fixes and enhancements.

Before downloading the upgrade, you should make sure your phone's battery is at least 50% charged and that it's connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.

The Japanese company has been working to upgrade some of its smartphones to Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, but only a few devices received the beta update.

Sadly, if Sony continues to be so slow in delivering software updates to some its most popular smartphones, it might take even a full year for Marshmallow to arrive on all devices that were promised the upgrade.

If you own the Xperia C4 or Xperia C5 Ultra and have successfully captured the update, let us know in the comments section whether or not you've noticed any significant new features or improvements.
