Sony could unveil two new smartphones during next year’s MWC, set to take place between February 27 and March 2 in Barcelona. The company might announce the upcoming Xperia G3112 and G3121, according to Xperia Blog.

It seems that Sony has already begun testing at least one of the upcoming smartphones, as the Sony G31XX model was spotted at the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The two devices will be the first that Sony announces next year, and the G letter in their codename indicates that they're 2017 models, just like last year’s models had codenames featuring the F letter and those released in 2015 had the E letter.

Sony Xperia G31XX could be a mid-range smartphone

There’s not much information on the upcoming smartphones at this point, as Sony is not known to always follow the same strategy for its handsets. This year’s Xperia XA was codenamed F31XX, which means that the G31XX could be a mid-ranger phone.

That remains to be seen, though, as more information on the upcoming phones is bound to surface soon, especially when the phones make a stop at regulators or are benchmarked on various services.

The last phones in the Xperia series that Sony announced this year were the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact. The flagship Xperia XZ came with an advanced 23MP rear camera with Sony G Lens, f/2.3 aperture, and triple image sensing technology.

The smartphone had a 13MP front camera, 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. It drew power from a 2,900mAh battery and it will be among the first to receive the update to Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Xperia X Compact is a premium smartphone with similar specs to the Xperia XZ, having a 4.6-inch display and running Snapdragon 650 SoC with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of local storage. It also has a 23MP rear camera and 2,700mAh battery.
