They will be launched four months away from each other

There have been quite a lot of rumors regarding Sony's upcoming Xperia lineup of smartphones for 2016, but nothing seems to have been set in stone yet.

Previous rumors claimed Sony would launch no less than five high-end Xperia smartphones in the first half of 2016: Xperia Z6 Mini (X45), Xperia Z6 Compact (X55), Xperia Z6 (X60), Xperia Z6 Plus (X65), and Xperia Z6 Ultra (X50).

However, it looks like that particular rumor was a bit too bold for the Japanese handset maker that continues to lose money with its smartphone business.

According to a new report from GforGames, Sony Mobile will only launch two high-end smartphones in 2016, both of which will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processors.

These smartphones will be launched four months from each other, and the first one should be available on the market in June 2016, whereas the next one will go on sale in October 2016.

Sony might not launch any new devices at CES 2016

Moreover, if you were expecting any new Xperia smartphones next month at CES 2016, then you will be disappointed since Sony Mobile is unlikely to launch any new handsets at the trade fair.

Both Xperia flagship smartphones will make use of metal covers and possibly completely different designs though this might not be something that many Xperia fans would agree with.

Although it's a bit too early to talk about specs, it's almost certain they will come with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution display and at least 3GB of RAM.

The Japanese company might not have decided yet the final specs sheet for its flagship smartphones, so any information coming so early must be seen as pure speculation.

Obviously, these rumors haven't been confirmed yet and may be subject to change, so take it with a grain of salt.
