14 DAY TRIAL // Leaked photos from a Sony presentation surfaced on Chinese website ePrice, showing a timeline for the company’s plans divided into chapters. It seems that the Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation has decided to discontinue the Xperia C, M, Z and E lines, in favor of developing smartphones solely under the Xperia X brand.
Since the Xperia X will be the only smartphone line at Sony, models in this series will cover all segments, from entry level to the high end. The new business strategy would simply mean that Sony will release handsets solely under the Xperia X series, instead of working on multiple lines, like the Xperia C, Xperia M or Xperia Z.
The presentation slides show that Sony’s activity between 2010 and 2012 focused on an "open OS for web communication” while the highlight of this period was the Xperia X10, the first Sony phone with Android OS, launched in 2009.
The next chapter, between 2013 and 2015, was all about the "best of Sony," focusing mainly on the Xperia Z series. Chapter three covers the period between 2016 and 2018, dubbed "Xperia for new communication." Xperia will be the main focus of the company in the next period of time, as Sony intends to aggressively use the “X” logo in future TV ads and promotional prints.
Xperia C6 Ultra could be renamed to the Xperia X Ultra
In addition, this could also mean that the upcoming Xperia C6 Ultra may be named the Xperia X Ultra, to be in line with the company’s recent plans. Rumors on the Xperia C6 Ultra point to the fact that the phone will come with a 20MP rear-facing camera and a 16MP one on the front, with LED flash. A 3000mAh battery will provide enough juice for keeping the phone’s lights on.
Sony is also preparing to release the new Xperia X smartphone, with a 5-inch LED screen, and 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It will have a 23MP rear camera and a 13MP one on the front, with a 2620mAh battery. The phone will come in multiple colors, including Black, White, Pink, and Gold.
