When Sony announced that PlayStation VR was coming in October, it also briefly showed that a version of Star Wars Battlefront would be launched for the virtual reality headset, although the company did not offer any information about the kind of gameplay that DICE was planning to deliver.

According to John Koller, the vice president in charge of marketing, the game can be one of the most popular ones when the new platform arrives and might drive overall sales.

He tells Fortune that, "We are working with EA, DICE, Lucasfilm, and Disney to try and make that experience something so special and so intrinsic to what’s in many people’s DNA, which is, ''How can I be in that world of Star Wars?' Battlefront is going to be one of those games that will really show gamers what it means to be in the world of VR. It’s very special."

The executive also makes it clear that VR Star Wars Battlefront will not be the same as the core shooter experience that's currently offered on the PC, the PlayStation 4, and the Xbox One.

Apparently, Sony is not focused on getting too many exclusives for the PlayStation VR because the company believes diversity is the most important element during the period immediately after launch, taking into account that the tech is so new.

Star Wars can be a huge force in the virtual reality space

The PlayStation VR solution will be sold for 399 dollars or Euro for those who want to only get the headset, and another 100 dollars or Euro for players who also want to get access to the Camera, which is required for VR and the Move controllers, which are only recommended.

Electronic Arts has an exclusive deal with Disney to create video games based on the franchise for the coming years, and Battlefront is just the first in a series of experiences that will explore the movies although it sounds like the second trilogy will remain untouched.

DICE has not offered any information on what mechanics it plans to implement in the PlayStation VR exclusive version of Star Wars Battlefront.

The studio is also working on three other downloadable content packs for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 version, which are designed to take gamers to Cloud City, the Death Star, and a yet undisclosed new location while also offering access to six new heroes and villains to play as.
