We reported over the weekend about the issues that Xperia Z5 smartphone owners might be affected by after upgrading to Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, and now it looks like Sony has pulled the update in some countries.

For example, Sony Canada has announced that it has removed Android 6.0 Marshmallow update “at this time and will advise once it’s been re-issued.” Although the company does not reveal the reasons behind its decision, it’s obvious the update has been removed following users’ backlash.

There are many topics on Sony’s official support forum where Xperia smartphone owners complain of major issues after upgrading to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Sony offered a temporary solution to the Marshmallow Google Play Store issue, but that involves a factory reset, and many users don’t want to do it unless absolutely necessary. In this case, it is necessary if you want to continue to use Google Play store.

Unfortunately, many Xperia Z5 users reported other issues too after upgrading to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and they have nothing to do with Google Play Store. For the time being, it’s unclear whether or not these problems can be solved with a factory reset.

Use Sony PC Companion desktop software to repair Android on your smartphone

Speaking of which, if you’ve been affected by the Marshmallow Google Play Store bug, here is what you have to do in order to be able to use it again.

First of all, you should clear the data for the Play Store by heading to Settings / Apps / Show system / Google Play Store / Storage / Clear Data. Then, disable location services from Settings / Location / Off.

The last step you need to take in order to fix the Google Play Store issue is to reinstall the Android system (or repair it) using Sony PC Companion software.

Although Sony Canada is the only one that has officially stated that it’s pulling Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Xperia Z5 family, it’s likely that the update has been removed in other countries as well, so if you haven’t gotten it yet, you might have to wait a while longer.
