Sony makes some lobby for its Xperia Z5 line of smartphones

Apple has just launched its new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus into the wild, and the new smartphone duo brings important improvements to the table, including the addition of 3D Touch control, 12MP rear cameras, 5MP frontal selfie shooters, a new A9 processors and 2GB of RAM.

Still, in some departments, things have remained the same. Battery life, for example, will be on par with that on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple says. An aspect that opens up the opportunity for the competition to highlight more advanced options.

Sony just unveiled the Xperia Z5 family (includes Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium) at IFA 2015 in Berlin last week. The three phones feature pretty much the same specs (the main difference applies to resolution) and also have in common another pretty important aspect - prolonged battery life.

According to Sony itself, the Xperia Z5 family can sustain a life cycle of up to 2 days. This statement is a bit unrealistic as far as we’re concerned. The Xperia Z5 Compact with its small screen (4.6 inches) and 720p resolution might be able to sustain such a cycle. But the Xperia Z5 Premium and its powerful 4K display? Highly unlikely.

Sony says to switch to Xperia, forget the new iPhones

Still, Sony has taken the opportunity to poke some fun at Apple’s new iPhone products by posting an image on its Twitter page. Sony seemingly asks Siri (Apple’s virtual assistant) a question about the company’s new devices: “Hey Siri, what about the battery life.” Fake Siri’s answer? “Switch to Sony.”

But in the wake of what has recently happened, can we really trust Sony? We’ve just told you that the Japanese tech giant retracted its earlier claims regarding its Xperia waterproof phones.

Even if the devices are rated as having IP68 certification, which means they can be used in up to 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes, now the company claims you shouldn’t be using them underwater for things like taking pictures and such.

So if Sony has changed its stance regarding waterproof capabilities, it could do so as far as battery life capabilities are concerned too. It remains to be seen whether the Xperia Z5 family can deliver what was promised, after the first units start reaching customers.
