The list doesn’t include the Sony Xperia Z3

Google announced the new Android 7.0 Nougat stable version recently and OTA updates already started rolling out. They’re expected to hit Nexus, Android One and Pixel C smartphones over the coming weeks. As expected, smartphone developers have already started releasing lists of phones that would get the update in the near future.

Sony has released a list with all of its devices that are expected to receive the update to Android 7.0 Nougat. The list includes the Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X Performance.

The list was posted on Sony Mobile’s blog and it mentions that timing and availability for software rollouts varies by market and operator. In fact, Sony didn’t provide any specific date or even month when these updates are expected to hit its devices, but it did say that more information would be provided soon.

According to a recent report, Sony required up to five months to release the update from Android 5.x Lollipop to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which means that Sony users might be in for a long wait. Still, considering the wide range of devices that the manufacturer offers, it’s quite understandable that it would require some time to work on the update before rolling it out to all smartphones.

The Xperia Z3 won’t be receiving the update

It’s interesting to see that the list of devices posted by Sony doesn’t include the Xperia Z3 from 2014, as the oldest devices in the list were released in early 2015.

This would mean that it’s probably time for Xperia Z3 owners to get an upgrade and if they have a little patience, they can get the new Xperia XR, expected to be announced during IFA 2016.

The Xperia XR could shape up to be quite an appealing smartphone, with its rumored Snapdragon 820 processor, rear camera of 21MP, a 12MP selfie shooter in the front and a 5.1-inch display with 1080p resolution.
