So it’d no longer have to use other voice assistants

Developing a digital assistant has become pretty mainstream these days, and large tech companies are investing in such features in an effort to avoid relying on the technology developed by others.

But on the other hand, Google Assistant, Alexa, and Siri continue to be the most popular choices out there, and this is also the reason others are working to integrate support for them into their own products.

Sonos, for example, is developing speakers that come with support for digital assistants from Google and Amazon, and this works perfectly fine both for the company and its users. But on the other hand, it looks like sticking with third-party digital assistants isn’t exactly the approach the company wants to stick to in the long term, and this is why it’s now planning a major new project.

Hey, Sonos

According to a report, Sonos has recently started surveying customers as to whether they’d be interested in using a native digital assistant for their smart speakers.

In other words, Sonos wants to develop its own voice assistant, and as it turns out, the wake-up phrase would be something like “Hey, Sonos.” In other words, everything would work pretty much like it currently does on the three assistants mentioned above, only that Sonos wants to have full control over the technology and therefore further optimize it for its speakers.

Right now, it looks like the Sonos assistant would be focused on managing speaker playback and finding new music to play, so without a doubt, the idea is to offer a fully optimized experience adapted to each speaker.

On the other hand, keep in mind this project is still in its early days, so Sonos could easily change its mind and stick with Google Assistant and Alexa without the world knowing about it.
