Google is no longer the owner of blogspot.in

Google isn’t necessarily as committed to improving Blogger, also known as Blogspot, as it was several years ago, but this doesn’t actually mean that the company wants to let the blogging platform go.

And yet, millions of sites have become impossible to reach these days after Google lost control of one of its Blogger domains for a reason that’s yet to be determined.

More specifically, the blogspot.in domain seems to now belong to a domain service provider, which means that all blogs that were using it are no longer directly accessible.

In other words, if you previously owned a blog that was available at blog.blogspot.in, it can no longer be loaded with this address. On the other hand, everything works normally if you replace .in with .com, as users are automatically redirected to the same content – Google actually uses country-specific domains in an attempt to make it easier for the company to block access to certain content if asked by local authorities.

Temporary bug?

While it’s not yet clear how exactly Google lost control of the domain, it’s also unknown what the search wants to do about it. Reclaiming the domain is obviously an option, but at the same time, one faster way to deal with the whole thing would just be setting a redirect that would point blog visitors to the content they’re looking for using a different domain.

Google is yet to provide some official information on what appears to be a blunder on the company’s side, so for now, everyone hosting a blog that’s impacted by this has nothing else to do than to wait for a solution.

Blogspot itself also gives blog owners the option to use their own domains and thus avoid issues like these, and you can find dedicated options in this regard, as well as instructions on how to set up the whole thing, in your account.
