A context menu that would provide users with more control

The task view in Windows 10, which also allows users to jump from one desktop to another, is one of the coolest features for those who want to better organize the apps running on their devices, but it’s no secret that further polishing is required.

For example, I still think that going to another virtual desktop isn’t as straightforward as it should be, and despite having hotkeys that allow us to do this with the press of a few buttons, Microsoft should also add new controls for those who rely on mouse input.

And someone on reddit has proposed an implementation that just makes sense in this regard, as the Task view button on the taskbar would boast a context menu that displays the available desktops.

Clicking any of these desktops instantly switches focus to it, while the configuration screen in the context menu provides you with access to the rest of the settings.

No changes in version 2004

Certainly, this idea can be further polished with additional information and other options, but at first glance, it would really make sense going forward, especially as Task view is set to improve in the long term.

At this point, right-clicking the Task view icon on the taskbar shows the generic taskbar context menu, with no dedicated options that would allow you to work with the virtual desktops or create new ones.

As we know already, the upcoming Windows 10 feature update due this month, also called Windows 10 May 2020 Update and version 2004, doesn’t bring any changes in this regard, so if anything, we can only hope Microsoft checks this out and has the idea in mind for a future update.

For now, we just have to stick with the standard options in Task view and the hotkeys.
