Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagships have encountered some issues since the phones were launched, but the South Korean company did its best to remedy the problems through a software update. Reports suggest that the latest audio problems can’t be solved with a simple update.

Some Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ users have experienced audio cutout on their smartphones, specifically when streaming YouTube videos, playing music or games. Users have taken to Samsung’s US community forum to complain about the issue and try to find what’s causing it.

Some say that the audio problem could be solved with a software update, while others believe it could be caused by a hardware issue. Galaxy S8 owners have found that audio can be turned back on with a tap or hard press about two inches above the speakers.

Samsung says it’s a software issue

If the action is done again, the speaker actually turns off. This would clearly indicate that the problem is caused by faulty wiring inside the phone, but the problem is much more complicated. Some users who experienced audio issues said the problem went away after rebooting or performing a factory reset of the phone. Still, for some of the users, the issue came back after a few days.

Samsung has responded to some users and stated that the audio issue is actually a software problem, while an update could be released soon after the company finds and tests a solution for everyone. At this point, users can either wait to get an official statement from the device maker on the matter or send their phones in for a repair.

In many cases, Samsung reps said there was no issue with the phones and performed an update that didn’t solve the issue for some. There’s also the option to request a replacement from Samsung, but users could actually experience the issue on the new phone as well.
