Not all phones seem to have the problem though

UPDATE, July 20: OnePlus has started rolling out a new software update to correct the issue, with the following statement offered to us by a company spokesperson:

"We have begun rolling out the software update. Timing may vary by region. We encourage OnePlus 5 users to download the update. If users haven't received a notification, check for the update by going to Settings > System Updates."

ORIGINAL STORY: As if the jelly effect wasn’t enough, here comes another problem that affects an unknown number of OnePlus 5 units: dialing emergency number 911 reboots the device, with the problem already confirmed on two different models in the United States and the United Kingdom.

A video posted by Facebook user Nick Morrelli and which you can watch below shows how the whole bug occurs, with the reboot typically triggered a few seconds after starting the call to 911.

His post on reddit was followed by a confirmation from user Blueeyedfoxie, who says the reboot is also happening in the United Kingdom.

“Just tried this with mine in the UK (checked over the radio to the police control room first of it was okay, we have a radio at work for the police) and it did the same thing, this is not a good thing for Oneplus,” she posted.

Working fine for some users

On the other hand, there are several users who revealed that dialing emergency services worked fine on their devices after trying it in the past, so it looks like this is just an isolated issue affecting just a small number of devices, though specifics in this regard are not available just yet.

Users who want to try out if their own OnePlus 5 can dial emergency services (whether it’s 911 or 112) correctly, can first pre-arrange a test with the local non-emergency number of the police, just to make sure they let them know it’s a test. Dialing 911 directly for testing is a thing that shouldn’t be done for a test and in most regions, the operator needs to be informed before.

As with everything OnePlus, a confirmation from the company is not yet available, but they’re most likely aware of the reports and probably investigating as we speak. A fix should be provided in the coming updates, and as we know, OnePlus typically releases lots of updates for its devices, so we shouldn’t have to wait too long for this to happen.
